Materials & Care

Materials & Craftsmanship

At The Material Reserve, every piece is built using premium furniture-grade plywood and solid hardwoods, selected for strength, stability, and long-term performance. We work exclusively with real wood materials—so natural grain patterns, tonal variation, and subtle character are part of the design, not something we hide or manufacture away.

Our process prioritizes honest construction, clean design, and materials that age beautifully over time.

Solid Hardwoods

We use carefully selected hardwood species such as white oak, walnut, maple, and other domestic woods depending on the design and application. Each species is chosen for its durability, structural integrity, and timeless appearance.

Furniture-Grade Plywood (No MDF)

Where stability and precision are critical—especially in wall-mounted pieces and cabinet-style furniture—we use premium furniture-grade plywood. This material offers superior strength and dimensional consistency compared to MDF or particle board, helping us maintain clean lines, reliable performance, and long-term durability.

We do not use MDF or low-grade composite materials.

Construction Standards

All components are milled, fabricated, and assembled using professional woodworking methods designed to support both structural demands and refined aesthetics.

Finish & Appearance

Each piece is finished to protect the wood while enhancing its natural character. Finishes are selected for durability and everyday use and may include clear, stained, or painted options depending on the product.

Natural Wood Variation

Because our furniture is made from real wood, natural variation in grain, color, and texture should be expected. These variations are not defects—they are a defining feature of authentic, high-quality wood furniture.

Every item we produce is one of a kind, and no two pieces will ever look exactly the same.

Installation Hardware (Wall-Mounted Pieces)

Wall-mounted pieces include professional-grade mounting hardware and installation instructions designed for secure attachment to wall studs or appropriate structural support.

Whenever possible, we use concealed mounting systems to maintain a clean, uninterrupted appearance with no visible brackets or fasteners once installed.

Care & Maintenance

To preserve the appearance and longevity of your furniture:

  • Clean with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth

  • Avoid harsh cleaners, abrasives, or chemical products

  • Wipe spills promptly to prevent moisture from lingering

  • Use felt pads or coasters when placing objects on surfaces

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or excessive humidity
